Psychotherapist, Teacher, Coach, Consultant
Charlotte has spent more than three decades helping people come into fuller contact with their own lived experience.
She has done this first as a psychotherapist, then as one of the most experienced teachers of Focusing-Oriented Therapy, and increasingly as a coach and consultant to leaders and organizations.
Her work grows out of the philosophy of Eugene Gendlin. Gendlin held that real change comes less from technique than from a particular quality of attention to what is felt but not yet said. Charlotte’s distinctive contribution has been to show how that attention lives in the relationship itself: the practitioner becoming, in Gendlin’s phrase, “the interaction that makes it better.”
For twelve years she led The International Focusing Institute’s two-year certification program in Focusing-Oriented Therapy. Mary Hendricks, Gendlin’s wife and the Institute’s former director, personally entrusted her with the role. Charlotte has since trained therapists, coaches, and helping professionals privately and in workshops around the world. She has lectured in social work at Columbia University and served as Clinical Director of the Center for Human Development and Family Services in New York City. She is based in Brooklyn. Across all of her roles, the through-line is the same: a trust that something in each person already knows its way forward, and a rare skill in helping it be heard.
THERAPIST
Charlotte is a psychotherapist with more than 30 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and groups. She integrates Focusing-Oriented Therapy, Relational Self Psychology, Spiritual Psychology, and EMDR. Her central aim is to help people become present to their lives as they are actually lived, free of old roles, distortions, and the lingering weight of trauma. She is the former Clinical Director and current Clinical Consultant of the Center for Human Development and Family Services in New York City. She also leads supervision and consultation groups for psychotherapists. Her practice is based in Brooklyn, New York.
I draw from the training in, and practice of, many different therapeutic approaches including transpersonal (spiritual) psychotherapy, EMDR, CDOI, Process Orientated Psychotherapy, Marriage and Family Therapy, Group Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy.

For therapists, coaches, and helping professionals looking to deepen their work.
Charlotte is among the most experienced teachers of Focusing-Oriented Therapy (FOT) working today. For twelve years she led The International Focusing Institute’s two-year FOT certification program, a responsibility handed to her by Mary Hendricks, Eugene Gendlin’s wife and the Institute’s former director. She then continued the program independently for six more years. She has taught FOT for 25 years, lectured in social work at Columbia University, and led workshops internationally for nearly two decades. She also teaches with FORGE (Focusing Oriented Relating in Group Environments) in New York. Her current courses, including The Six Steps of Therapeutic Transformation, give therapists, coaches, and helping professionals a relational map of how change actually happens in a session.
Beginning Sept 2026 her latest offering is:
Six Steps of Therapeutic Transformation
“Not technique - something subtler. In six live sessions, Charlotte maps the felt, relational movements beneath the words: the ground a session grows from, the moment a felt sense forms, the shift that carries new meaning forward.”

MY APPROACH AS A THERAPIST
Every human being is so unique that I feel it is important to draw from a wide variety of approaches and traditions. While these approaches can inform me I integrate the understandings I have gained from each into a Focusing Relational Self Psychological Orientation. This orientation helps me to navigate the wide variety of issues, needs, questions, and complexities of human experience.
So what is Focusing Relational Self Psychology? I understand that within the problems and conundrums that bring people into therapy such as anxiety, depression, addictions, feelings of isolation, problems in assertion and self esteem, that implicit in these problems are the answers to moving forward. As Eugene Gendlin, the father of Focusing says, ‘Every problem has within it it’s own forward movement’. I feel that problems we have in our lives are important messages from ‘a deeper part of the self’ that is trying to get heard, perhaps parts that have been ignored, shunned and abandoned. Making contact with these parts of ourselves brings surprising insights, shifts and healing. As our formally difficult places become known and slowly accepted they are no longer so problematic and as they become integrated we become more whole, actualized, and present as people.
As a therapist I am guided by these deep felt meanings that are just under the surface of every human struggle. I want to build the kind of relationship in which the therapeutic partnership can find safety, trust, and freedom to access the implicit felt meanings that are carried in deep bodily knowings that we all have and don’t necessarily notice. It is the development and nurturing of this relationship with the deeper, greater ‘more’, that all of us have access to, that brings fresh new life and sense of being at home into our lives.

ABOUT CLEM
I've spent more than 20 years working with businesses at different stages of growth, from ambitious founder-led companies to established organisations navigating significant change.
That experience has taught me that the best strategies are rarely the most complicated. They're the ones that create clarity, concentrate resources and give people confidence about what happens next.
Today I work directly with a small number of businesses each year, giving every engagement senior-level attention from beginning to end.
